IT’S TOO COLD TO APPLY GROWTH REGULATORS WITHOUT
ARMA
- Many winter wheat crops were drilled early and the majority are well-tillered
and forward in their development. These advanced crops will be at high
risk of lodging later in the season.
- This year also a high proportion of the wheat varieties currently
being grown are prone to lodging. Deben and Glasgow have a 4 rating
to lodging, with Xi19 having a rating of only 5. Claire, Option, Istabraq
and Gladiator have a 6 rating to lodging. In addition several key varieties
such as Deben, Solstice and Xi19 are tall with a low centre of gravity.
- These crops will need early and effective growth regulation at stem
extension stage (GS31-32) to reduce crop height and to strengthen the
stem.
Arma Will Optimise Uptake In Cold Conditions
- But uptake of growth regulators at this time of year will not be
optimal. The minimum temperature for best effectiveness of chlormequat
is 8°C, whereas the average temperature in the early spring months
is 5.3°C.
- Adding Arma to early growth regulators will improve
their effectiveness and flexibility.
- In development work Arma has been shown to increase
the uptake of chlormequat at four fold when applied at 4°C and two
fold at 12°C.
Uptake Effect - Chlormequat
and Arma

Arma Will Increase Penetration & Uptake
- For products less affected by temperature, such as Moddus and Meteor,
Arma will also offer considerable benefits in terms of penetration and
uptake.
Yield Effect - Moddus/Meteor
and Arma

Arma Benefits Right Across The Tank Mix
Arma will also benefit all components in the tank-mix
– contact fungicides, triazoles fungicides, strobilurin fungicides,
growth regulators, broad-leaved weed herbicides and grass-weed sulphonyl
urea herbicides.
