@ T2
- T2 sprays are applied at flag
leaf emergence (Growth Stage 39) and aim to control
disease on the flag leaf and eradicate infections
on leaf 2.
- The flag leaf contributes around 42% to grain
yield and so it is essential to keep it clean. T2
is the
major yield-building fungicide timing.
- Key fungicides at this timing are strobilurins
and triazoles.
- In order to manage the widespread resistance problem
to strobilurins, they must be used at a robust
rate and in mixtures. Only two strobilurins may be
applied
to each crop.

Arma will benefit the performance
of both strobs and triazole fungicides in terms of
yield response and return on investment.
Trials over three years at TAG showed
at least a 0.5 t/ha yield benefit from the use of Arma
with Amistar
(azoxystrobin) and Landmark (kresoxim and epoxiconazole).
Arma will also enhance the performance
of Mantra (kresoxim, epoxiconazole + fenpropimorph),
Twist
(trifloxystrobin),
Acanto (picoxystrobin), Opera (pyraclostrobin +
epoxiconazole) and Tucana (pyraclostrobin) and a wide
range of triazole
fungicides.
Enhance the effective dose rates
Trials and commercial use has demonstrated that
Arma enhances the effective dose rate of a wide
range
of straight and coformulated fungicides.
Arma helps to achieve good coverage
of the crop and penetration of the leaf and allows
the fungicide
to do its job to best effect.
This table shows the extra yield
given by adding Arma to a range of different cereal
fungicides.

Prolong the greening effect
The majority of yield benefit from strobs is thought
to come from physiological greening effects.
Trials clearly show that Arma added to half rate
fungicides improves the green leaf area which will
perpetuate
the effect of strobilurins. Green Leaf Area

Solutions
@ T3
- T3 sprays are applied at ear emergence
and top up disease control on the flag leaf as well
as protecting the ear. The ear contributes around 22%
to grain yield.
- The choice of T3 fungicides is driven by the need
for effective Septoria control and, in most instances,
will mean a well-timed triazole application, particularly
on Septoria-prone varieties, with a strobilurin.
- The significance of Fusarium on the ear will depend
on the weather at flowering, but this range of
diseases need to be monitored carefully, as they affect
grain
size, yield and flour colour and produce mycotoxins
which will devalue grain. Sooty moulds will also
need controlling.

Improve grain quality
A triazole alone or a triazole/strobilurin mix or coformulation
mixed with Arma will make the T3 spray more cost-effective,
particularly when applied at reduced dose rates. Mycotoxin Control

Improve ear colour
The addition of Arma to a T3 fungicide treatment to protect
the ear from a range of diseases will:
- Secure the performance of triazole or triazole/strob
treatment.
- Help to achieve good coverage of the crop and penetration
of the leaf.
- Improve rainfastness to half an hour, essential
in showery weather.
- Give a return of many times its cost - even a 1⁄4
tonne increase of Arma will give a 6-fold return
on investment.
